Anita West - 'Life, Love, Landscape'
Exhibition Date: 17/09/10 until 03/10/10
I am continually surprised at how enchanted I am by this land and this life I am living. Even though I live a mere breath from the beach, where my heart wraps itself around my family; my soul travels to the hills, through a fire ravished landscape, to the floods of the inland rivers and to the trees, always the trees." - Anita West more...

Tjawina Porter Nampitjinpa is a half sister to the important painters Nyurapayia Nampitjinpa (aka Mrs. Bennett) and Ester Giles Nampitjinpa. Tjawina grew up in the Tjukurla, Pangkupirri and the Rawlinson Ranges area in Western Australia. In the late 1970's Tjawina, then a widow, moved to the Government settlement of Papunya with her children. During this time she also lived at the newly established outstation of Yai Yai for about a year. Tjawina then returned to live in Docker River. In the late 1980's Tjawina and her sister Esther moved with their respective families to Tjukurla to help establish it as a new community. Tjawina is known for her skill as a traditional basket weaver as well as her prominence as a painter. Tjawina paints her mother's and father's dreaming, the sites of Yumari, Pangkupirri, Tjukurla and Tjarlirli. These sites are important for ceremonies and as sources for water bush foods. more...

Running parallel to that are ideas that spring from photographic imagery, fashion and robotics." Stephen Glassborow. more...
John McIntosh - Notes on the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy
Exhibition Date: 11/06/10 until 27/06/10
The exhibition derives its name from Douglas Adams classic book. The creation of an improbable world which made real the bizaar, was a search for meaning in a world where nothing we could invent is likely to rival the bizaar-ness of our 'real' world, I like the adventure of discovering what emerges out of the canvas, 'to paint carefully that which doesn't exist', I wish to hand you the viewer a paradox, to show you real-ness and also deny it at the same time. John McIntosh. more...

Helen Norton
Exhibition Date: 20/03/09 until 09/04/09
Norton has used a meditation on Dante Alegheri’s 13th century Cantos – “The Divine Comedy” and in particular the middle section “Purgatorio” to interweave the very old theme of Purgatory and the Seven Deadly Sins as seen by Dante, with her own creative thoughts on contemporary multicultural spiritual life. This has resulted in a very brave, potent and prescient body of work with easily definable references to current events, despite the theme being founded in observations made by philosophers thousands of years ago. “Psychologically we haven’t really changed much over thousands of years other than having become far more confused by too much information laced with fear filled judgment. By removing our religious and cultural bias in order to freely and openly access some of the great cultural tools provided by the underpinnings of social belief systems we often find practical and well rounded personal and social guidelines to which we can refer throughout our life journey” more...

In the early 1980’s, along with artists such as David Larwill and Pasquale Giardino, this innovative group of young artists established their own gallery space in Fitzroy, ‘Roar Studios’. Here they set out to have a profound and ongoing impact on the Australian art scene. With an intended play on words, these ‘raw’, energetic and rebellious artists created an art movement with their bold style and continue to be aggressively pursed by investors, collectors and curators alike. Stephen Glassborow, Jason Jeynes & Herman Pekel
Exhibition Date: 11/08/06 until 24/08/06
Stephen Glassborow presents classical figures with a unique abstraction that makes his sculptures aesthetically magnificient yet cleverly thoughtful. Stephen's synthesis of invention, form and balance set in bronze reveres what is beauty whilst simultaneously begging the same question. Jason Jeynes derives his artistic inspiration from the female form in the like of Caravaggio, with sensitive realism and honesty. His art honours women and captivates the viewer just as the subject evidently captivated the artist. Herman Pekel offers artistic technique itself a retrospective, with a return to traditional principles and aesthetics. This published and award winning Melbourne artist is a humbling treat for Sydney art goers. Herman's career is an extraordinary tale with 90 major awards, notable prizes and feature publications as well as extensive national and international private and corporate collections. I paint portraits of everyday life in which we move and live.
